Who Will Take the Torch?

kmcausland1

This is one of the first blog posts that I wrote for my church a few weeks ago, but I believe it can apply to more churches than just Judson Baptist Church. Please ponder who will take the torch and carry on the ministry of Christ.

What do you see when you think about this church in 20 years? Do you see a dying church or a thriving church that has continued to grow? We have a new generation of the church that we must foster and teach to carry on His ministry. Whether it is encouraging the youth to take on a greater role in the ministry, encouraging our children to give and tell of God’s love, or just a family volunteering together to take on a bus ministry for 20 minutes a week.

From generation to generation, we must encourage growth and responsibility. This includes speaking of God’s commands and His love at home. The Lord has a role for everyone; this does not always mean getting in front of people. There are many ways that we can serve as a family or as an individual from cleaning the church to sharing about His sacrifice and outreach. Not everyone is called to church ministry, but everyone is called HIS ministry. To keep the church going, we must encourage the next generation to carry it.

Let us begin encouraging our youth to step up and take on a role. Allow them to be nervous and pray in front of everyone, play/sing when they can, join the bus route, or teach a lesson to the young ones if they so desire. They are the next generation of the church, and we must begin to teach them so that they may take the torch when their time comes.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (KJV)

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
