Oh, be careful little...

Growing up, I was sheltered. I remember for many years, we did not have TV, I was homeschooled, and sleepovers did not happen often. When I was little, I would get upset thinking that I was missing out because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. My parents protected my innocence, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. Our eternal lives mattered to them, and they made family devotions a priority. My parents would study the Word together and pray together. We sat as a family at the table and engaged in each other’s lives.

One of the most impactful things I like to recall in my childhood is when I would wake up early in the morning. I was little, and I am sure I was annoying because we all know little ones do not sleep in… regardless of how late they were up! I remember the sun was just beginning to wake up, so my room was a dark blue hue. I opened the door to go down the dark stairwell to the living room, but when I got to the bottom step and creaked that door open, I noticed my dad on his knees, knelt over the couch, praying in tears with my mom’s blanket draped over his shoulders. I froze and crept back upstairs as quietly as I could so that I would not get in trouble for being up too early. I have always wanted to have that impact on my child. I want him to sneak around to find me worshipping, praying, serving…

What do your children or grandchildren find when they are sneaking around? Do they find you praising the Lord when you are alone, or is it all for show? Are you striving to have a lasting impact on the little ones’ lives so that they can be encouraged to raise their children up to serve God? Or do they find something else? Do you make their eternity a priority? Do you strive to live according to His Word in your daily walk?

1 Corinthians 11:1

11 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
