Mom, I Love You.

You know what is annoying? Hearing mom one thousand times a day. I work from home, and Logan knows that while Mom has her headphones on, she is on a call, and he should not be bothering her. Tell me why that is the moment he needs help with school, to show me something cool, to tattle on the dog, or to tell me a funny story about the cats. I try to be patient, but my sinful nature, more often than not, takes over…

Recently, he has started this new thing. He will be doing something like playing his Nintendo or doing his schoolwork. He won’t look up or stop doing what he is doing and will say, “Mom.” Pause, “What, buddy?” pause, and without looking away from his task, he will say, “I love you.” The entire exchange is always very short and in a very matter-of-fact tone. The first time he did this, I was swamped and stressed and did NOT want to hear my name again! Work was busy, he had been fighting me at school, my house was a mess, and I believe we had company coming over. I just wanted to listen to Outnumbered on Fox News while I did my dishes for my lunch hour!

I was 15 minutes in, and I heard, “Mom.” For the umpteenth time. I was about to lose my mind!! I took a deep breath and asked, “What?” in a slightly annoyed tone. Waited… “I love you.” I felt so guilty! He does this all the time, so now I can predict it. The same thing… every time. “Mom.” Pause. I sigh, “What, buddy?”, “I love you.” And we move on. I still get annoyed because it is ALWAYS at the most inappropriate time, and I hate to break a thought or a task to listen. I know… worst mom award goes to, you guessed it, KRIS!! He does the same thing to Jake, too. We both know exactly what he is about to say and have the same reaction!

I feel like I can say in certain confidence that I am not alone. I think there are more parents out there than I would believe that have had the same response to such a small, sweet thing… Did you know that there is a Father, though, who doesn’t get tired of hearing His children call His name? In fact, He WANTS to hear His name being called. If you haven’t guessed it yet, it’s our Heavenly Father! God wants us to call upon His name! He wants us to tell Him we love Him, to ask Him for help, to just…. Talk to Him. We don’t, though, do we? I can say that for myself, I am guilty of forgetting Him. Forgetting to thank Him, to ask Him for help, to simply talk to Him. When was the last time you annoyed God? Are you speaking to Him daily, or are you forgetting? When was the last time you simply told God, “I love You?”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (KJV)

16 Rejoice evermore.

17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
