It Was My Favorite Crockpot

Are you afraid of change? Like, the way things are is just fine. Why do we need to change it? I used to think I loved change… until I became an adult, and things kept changing! Location changes, people change, finances change… your FACE, back, ability to bounce back after an all-nighter changes!!! HA! No… The changes I liked were rearranging my living room and painting the walls… not real change.
Sorry, it took me a while to get here. I guess I don’t like changing the subject either! I had a crockpot… It was my favorite crockpot. It had a timer; the temperature would never fail me, and the clips to lock the lid on NEVER BROKE! If you know, you know. My favorite thing to make in this crockpot was a roast. It always came out to juicy perfection! Well… I made a roast one day, and after dinner, I was washing my crockpot insert when I noticed a crack. The crack was big enough for me to get my nail in it. I flipped it over to reveal an even bigger crack! There were TWO cracks! I called Jake over to look, and he confirmed the inevitable… the stone was cracked, and I would need a new one. I didn’t want a new one! I loved this crockpot. I had it for 6 years! It was too young to die! I told him I would research it because I was sure I could fix it and put it back in the cupboard. It took me three weeks to admit that it was not fixable. I even cried and had to have Jake take it to the trash. I just didn’t want a new crockpot! For a few weeks, we did some research on different crockpots, and Jake got me an excellent deal on a new one. I was wary because it wasn’t my crockpot… but I gave it a try. Turns out… The new crockpot was better than the old one! The new one is not made of stoneware, so is less likely to break… there are more features… I can SAUTE in this one and not dirty other pans in prep… I can even transfer the liner to the oven to crisp the top of my meal in it! Complete game changer! I wish I would have discovered this crockpot YEARS ago!
Do you ever feel like we do this to God? He tries to tell us that it is time for a change, but we are comfortable with our current settings. He tries to show us that it’s not working anymore, and it’s cracked, but we still try to convince Him that no, it’s fine. We can fix it! It’s all going to be fine. Until it’s not. The inevitable becomes truth and you are forced into the change. Once we experience God’s change though, we are uncomfortable, but we start to discover our new settings… we start to learn all of the possibilities that he has opened up for us and we wish we’d have given in to His Will a long time ago! HEY, God does know what He is talking about!
Is God trying to show you it’s time for a change? Maybe it’s a job that you are too comfortable in or a location change. Maybe it is something smaller. Maybe he wants you to volunteer at your church. Maybe He just wants you to GO to church. He might even want you to reach out to the one who had hurt you all the years ago and let go of resentment. Whatever it is, don’t be afraid of a little discomfort for a bit. You may be missing out on a bigger and better plan that God is just waiting for you to accept.
P.S. I can even proof AND bake bread in this crockpot!!
Deuteronomy 31:8 (KJV)
And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
I love this thought!
I love reading these. You really have a gift for it.
Excellent thoughts.
